Avengers Doomsday Update: Pedro Pascal is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, but he is not the new leader of the Avengers. This revelation by the actor comes after Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman's recent interview went viral, where he seemingly hinted that Pascal’s superhero would go on to lead the Avengers. However, the actor refuted such rumours by stating that it’s big news to him, revealing that it's not something that his character’s future entails.
In an interview, Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman opened up about the new leader of Avengers in the upcoming instalment from the hit franchise. Shakman told Variety, "Reed was the hardest role to cast in Fantastic Four because he goes from being the nerdy scientist who’s locked away in the lab, to the husband and the father who’d do anything to protect his family, to the guy who’s leading the Avengers.”
It didn't come as a surprise to fans that development in Pedro Pascal's character as his Fantastic Four co-stars, including Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, will also reprise their roles in Avengers: Doomsday.

Pascal found Shakman’s comment was a bit of a mislead. In an interview with Associated Press, as quoted by Variety, the Last of Us actor believes that the director was referencing the storyline of Reed Richards in the comic book. He thinks that Matt Shakman's statement is misinterpreted by MCU fans.
“It’s big news to me, that’s for one. I think Matt Shakman was doing an interview and when he was speaking about Reed… there is something that happens in the comics where he is sort of drawn in by the Avengers family and asked to be put into a leadership position. That is something that happens in the comics. It isn’t necessarily something that my character’s future entails," Pascal said.
Further clarifying the rumours, he added, “I am being honest in that. I am not even trying to avoid spoilers. It’s a little bit of a mislead.”
Avengers Doomsday, the highly anticipated film, is slated to hit cinemas on May 1, 2026.
