Who Is Shashi Shekhar Vempati? Meet New CBFC Chairperson Appointed By Government

Shashi Shekhar Vempati has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) by the central government. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He will serve in this role for the next three years. The CBFC plays an important role in certifying films before their release in India.

Shashi Shekhar Vempati takes over as CBFC chairperson, succeeding Prasoon Joshi. The change came as Joshi recently took over as chairman at Prasar Bharati.

The CBFC is responsible for reviewing films and certifying them for public viewing. The government feels Vempati’s appointment is timely and will help in improving the functioning of the board. 

Vempati’s Background And Expertise

Vempati is known for his strong technology and media background. He is the co-founder of AI4India and has extensive knowledge of artificial intelligence. He is an associate of BharatGen, an initiative on innovation.

Over the years, he has held several key positions in government and academic institutions. His wide experience in science, technology and communication is expected to provide a fresh perspective to the CBFC.

Shashi Vempati’s Education And Career

Vempati completed his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Bombay. After his studies, he pursued a media career and held a number of senior positions.

He is also a writer and has written a book named Collective Spirit, Concrete Action, based on the popular radio programme “Mann Ki Baat”. His work is indicative of his interest in communication and public engagement.
