Writer and actor Zeishan Quadri gave Indian cinema one of the most significant and relatable films with Gangs of Wasseypur. From writing the screenplay for both parts to playing the role of Definite in the sequel, he played a crucial role in the film's creation. Zeishan recently revealed that he received just Rs 5 lakh for the first part and was promised payment for Anurag Kashyap directorial Gangs of Wasseypur part 2, but it didn't happen due to a lack of funds. The Bigg Boss 19 ex-contestant opened up about the making of the iconic film and the challenges he faced.

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Zeishan was asked whether Anurag Kashyap had lost interest after the initial pitch. The writer revealed the details about Gangs Of Wasseypur. Recalling his first meeting, he said, "When I met him for the first time and he read the concept note of 7-8 pages, he said then and there that I will make the film. He said, ‘I will make it 100 percent, you don’t worry about it.’ He gave me his number on the spot."

He also shared how his first impression of the director made him question the collaboration. Zeishan stated, “I saw Anurag getting out of an auto rickshaw and I wondered if this man doesn’t have any money, how will he make my film? It’s all about perception."

Before giving the script to Anurag, Zeishan had placed one condition in front of him. The writer shared, "I said, ‘There’s a character called Definite, I want to play that. That’s my only condition. If you say yes, then I will write the script.’"

Zeishan On Not Getting Paid For Writing Gangs of Wasseypur 2

In the same interview, he stated, "I got Rs 5 lakh and I was told that I would be paid for part 2 but that didn’t happen. Because there was no money. One week before the shoot of the second part, UTV backed out saying we won’t make this film."

Despite this, he decided to go ahead because he was more passionate about getting the film made. Zeishan continued, “There was no money then and I didn’t need it either. I was more interested in getting the film made. Everyone said the same thing because the film was important for all of us. Everyone got paid very little for that film."

Gangs of Wasseypur was released in two parts. The first was debuted on June 22, 2012 and the sequel on August 8, 2012. Both films became commercial successes at the box office and etched their place as cult classics in the history of Indian cinema. The story is based on the real-life coal mafia wars and crime families in Dhanbad over several decades.

Meanwhile, Zeishan Quadri recently made his stint in Salman Khan's reality show Bigg Boss 19.
