Assam Police have pressed murder charges against Zubeen Garg's manager, Siddharth Sharma and North East India Festival organizer, Shyamkanu Mahanta in connection with the singer's death. Both men were arrested in Delhi and Gurugram, respectively, and have been remanded to 14-day police custody for interrogation. The police have added Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to murder, to the FIR, besides existing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence.
The head of the 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing Zubeen Garg's death, DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, mentioned that a police team is prepared to travel to Singapore to participate in the investigation.
According to PTI, DGP Munna Prasad Gupta said, "We are investigating each and every aspect of the singer's death and, since it has happened in Singapore, we requested the government of that country to allow us to investigate under a mutual treaty. The formalities have been completed and the Singapore Government has asked us to wait for a couple of days."

The CID has registered a case (CID PS Case No. 18/2025) against Zubeen Garg’s manager and a festival organiser under Sections 61(2), 105 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, later adding Section 103 as the probe deepened.
Investigators have questioned several of the late singer’s close associates, including bandmate Sekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprava Mahanta and cousin Sandipan Garg, a police officer. They also seized Zubeen’s handbag from his manager, Siddhartha Sharma, which contained documents and medicines now sent for forensic testing.
Officials are awaiting the results of a second autopsy conducted in India. While Singapore authorities have handed over preliminary findings to the Indian High Commission, the Guwahati Medical College report is delayed as viscera samples are under examination at the CFSL in Delhi.
Zubeen, who had travelled to Singapore for the North-East Festival, died on September 19. The Singapore Police Force later confirmed he drowned while swimming off St John’s Island, not while scuba diving as initially reported. His wife, Garima Garg, who lodged a police complaint on September 27, has said she is yet to receive a copy of the official report.
