Not Ameesha Patel, But This Actor Was The Initial Choice For 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha'

JE Entertainment Desk: In 2001, when Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, starring Sunny Deol, Amisha Patel, and Amrish Puri in the lead, hit the theatres, it set a benchmark in the Indian film industry. The film was released at a time when patriotism was at its pinnacle following the Kargil War. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is set against the backdrop of India's partition and the ensuing battle with Pakistan.

The movie, starring Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol in the lead roles, re-released in theatres on June 9, 2023 after more than two decades. Gadar was not only one of the blockbusters movie of that year, the film's story is still in the hearts of many. But, did you know Ameesha Patel was not the first choice for the role of Sakina?

Not Ammesha Patel, But This Actor Was Gadar's First Choice:

The makers had finalised Kajol to play female lead in the film. According to reports, even Neelam was being considered for the role of Sakina. When questioned once whether Kajol and Neelam were the initial choice for the movie, director Anil Sharma allegedly rejected it, calling it an "outright lie."

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha- Re-release

Late actor Amrish Puri's grandson Vardhan Puri spoke about the re-release of Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol-starrer. In a media statement, Vardhan said, "It’s an absolute joyous moment to know that Gadar is re-releasing in theatres after 22 glorious years. It’s going to be something larger than life. Anil Sharma sir has re-mastered and reimagined the film in 4K and Dolby Atmos sound effect. That’s phenomenal. I cannot wait to watch the film in its renewed version with my family. It’s going to be overwhelming."

Gadar 2: The Katha Continues

However, 22 years later, Gadar is finally receiving a sequel named Gadar 2: The Katha Continues. Announcing the release date of Gadar 2, Deol took to his Instagram handle and wrote, "Hindustan Zindabaad Hai….Zindabaad Tha.. .aur Zindabaad Rahega! This Independence Day, we bring to you the biggest sequel in Indian cinema after two decades. #Gadar2 releasing in Cinemas on 11th August 2023."
