Oscars Nomination Announcement Delayed: The past 24 hours have been quite difficult for the people of Los Angeles due to wind-whipped fires that spread across the city. After this, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences extended its voting nominations window by 2 days. They also delayed the announcement of the much-awaited 97th annual Oscar nominations by a couple of days. The CEO of the Academy Bill Kramer wrote a letter to the members on this important decision on January 8. 

Bill Kramer wrote, “We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been impacted by the devastating fires across Southern California. So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you. Given the fire situation, we want to share some updates regarding an extension to the Oscars nominations voting window…Nominations voting for the 97th Oscars opened this morning at 9 am PT. We will be extending the voting window by two days to give members more time to cast their ballots. Voting will now close on Tuesday, January 14 at 5 pm PT.” 

“As such, our Oscars Nominations Announcement will move from Friday, January 17 to Sunday, January 19.” Thank you for your understanding during this complex time. We hope everyone is safe,” it further read. 

Conan O’Brien will be hosting the 97th Oscars for the very first time. It will held at Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 2, 2025. The prestigious event will be on air live on ABC. The red carpet show will be premiering live at 6:30 pm ET/3:30 p.m. PT. 

Notably, multiple wildfires have been spreading across the city since Wednesday (Jan 8) including Hollywood Hills. As per the latest update, five people have been dead and ten thousand people have been displaced.
