This curated list is based on my personal recommendations for underrated spy thrillers with standout performances that deserve more recognition.

5 Must-watch underrated spy thrillers

Agent Vinod (Amazon Prime Video)

Released in 2012, Agent Vinod centres around Indian RAW agent Vinod on a globe-trotting mission to investigate a nuclear threat linked to international conspiracies. In search of clues, he travels across multiple countries, the narrative unfolds challenges and his budding romance. Directed by  Sriram Raghavan, the film stars Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Adil Hussain, Ram Kapoor, Prem Chopra and many others.

2.Madras Cafe (Netflix)

Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the political spy thriller about an Indian intelligence agent, Major Vikram Singh (John Abraham, on a covert operation in the war-torn area in Sri Lanka. He navigates assassination, rebel groups and diplomatic strategies. The movie also features Nargis Fakhri and Raashi Khanna in pivotal roles.

3.Code Name: Tiranga (Netflix)

The story follows a fierce undercover agent on a dangerous mission to track down a terrorist. During her journey, she falls in love and is forced to choose between her nation and her personal life. Parineeti Chopra and Harrdy Sandhu play the lead roles, while Sharad Kelkar plays the role of the villain in the film.

4.Phantom (Netflix And Amazon Prime Video)

Directed by Kabir Khan, Phantom stars Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in this highly engaging, intense spy thriller. The film brings a covert Indian operation led by disgraced ex-soldier Daniyal Khan and agent Nawaz Mistry to track down and assassinate the masterminds behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

5.Anek (Netflix)

Anek, released in theatres in 2022, follows an undercover spy, Joshua, who is sent to conflict-ridden Northeast India, tasked with securing peace by dismantling a major militant group. Ayushmann Khurrana stars in the lead role in Anubhav Sinha's directorial.
