Maareesan OTT Release: After its theatrical run, Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu’s Tamil comedy thriller Maareesan is all set to make its digital debut. The movie will be available in multiple languages, including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, ensuring fans across India can enjoy it. Maareesan first hit the big screens on July 25, 2025. Within less than a month, the makers have decided to bring the film online, allowing a wider audience to watch it from home.
Netflix India announced on August 17 that the film will begin streaming from August 22, 2025. The film tells the story of Velayudham, an elderly man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, and Dhaya, a thief who plans to exploit his condition for personal gain. However, their unexpected meeting turns into a life-changing journey filled with emotional and surprising twists. What starts as a simple plan for theft soon develops into an engaging and heartfelt adventure, highlighting themes of trust, compassion, and self-discovery. The mix of comedy and thriller elements makes Maareesan both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Maareesan Cast And Crew
Apart from Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, the movie features a strong supporting cast including Kovai Sarala, Vivek Prasanna, Sithara, PL Thenappan, Livingston, Renuka, Saravana Subbaiah, and several others. The Tamil film is directed by Sudheesh Sankar and written by V Krishna Murthy, with production handled by Super Good Films. Maareesan also marks the reunion of Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu after two years. The duo previously shared the screen in Mari Selvaraj’s Maamannan (2023), which was both a box office success and a critically acclaimed film.
Meanwhile, Fahadh reportedly revealed that he was unsure if Vadivelu would agree to join the project, but once he accepted, it added a whole new dimension to the film. Interestingly, Fahadh originally planned to make Maareesan in Malayalam. However, after discussions with the producer, the project was shifted to Tamil, with the condition that Vadivelu had to be part of it.
Maareesan Box Office Run
Although Maareesan received positive reviews from critics for its performances and unique storyline, the film could not achieve major commercial success. Reports suggest the movie opened with Rs 75 lakhs on its first day and, within six days, collected around Rs 4.54 crore. Despite its modest box office performance, the film is now expected to reach a much larger audience through Netflix. With its engaging plot, powerful performances, and the much-loved pairing of Fahadh and Vadivelu, Maareesan promises to be a must-watch on OTT.
