The Bengal Files Storyline

Vivek Agnihotri's directorial is set against the backdrop of Direct Action Day on August 16, 1946, and depicts the turmoil and bloodshed that erupted in Calcutta before spreading across Bengal, including the Noakhali, Tipperah, and Comilla riots. The political thriller seeks to portray the abuse as a large-scale humanitarian disaster that had an everlasting impact on India's path to freedom. It follows a criminal investigator who attempts to solve a missing person case only to unearth widespread political corruption. His quest is juxtaposed to another plotline that explores the lingering memory of communal violence and the personal cost of division.

The Bengal Files debuted with Rs 1.35 crore and showed a positive trend. However, its progress halted in the second week owing to competition from Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.  Despite this, it collected approximately Rs 15.25 crore at the Indian box office.
