Vivek Agnihotri's The Bengal Files opened with Rs 1.63 crore India net, which is comparatively less than his last The Kashmir Files (Rs 3.55 crore). The filmmaker has recently disclosed that he is having financial difficulties, stating that he had to borrow money in order to travel to Delhi for the film's promotional events. He also said that his main problem is money because nobody backs their film until the last minute.
Vivek Agnihotri told Galatta Plus that all of the money made from The Kashmir Files went towards creating The Bengal Files. "I don’t know what will happen to me after this. The problem is that our ambition is to create something which is worth Rs 100 crore, but we have very small money so we have to look after every penny and do things faster so that we finish shoot in lesser days," he said.
Additionally, Vivek Agnihotri revealed that since he began producing movies that deal with difficult subjects, he has consistently struggled financially. He acknowledged that money is still a barrier today, recalling his struggles with Buddha in a Traffic Jam, The Tashkent Files, and The Kashmir Files. He claimed that in order to fly to Delhi and promote The Bengal Files, he recently had to figure out how to borrow money.
Vivek Agnihotri stated that the success of the movie at the box office will determine whether a sequel is possible. However, he gave fans his word that he would proceed with the second portion if the movie makes decent amount.
The Bengal Files Collection
Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, Simratt Kaur, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, and Simran Khan are the cast members of The Bengal Files. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the political thriller brought in Rs 3.9 crore over the course of two days after earning Rs 1.75 crore on the first day and an additional Rs 2.15 crore on the second. The Bengal Files' performance has been poor, even when compared to other recent releases.
The Bengal Files is up against fierce competition from other major multilingual releases. On its first day, Tiger Shroff's Baaghi 4 made about Rs 12 crore, while Hollywood's horror sequel The Conjuring: Last Rites made over Rs 18 crore.
