The former US president Barack Obama's year-end lists featuring his favourite music, movies, etc always garner a lot of eyeballs on social media, highlighting his diverse and rich taste in various art forms and ability to keep up with popular culture despite a hectic life as a politician and public figure. His list of favourite 2024 movies is going viral on the internet as it features Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia's Grand Prix winning movie, All We Imagine As Light.
Payal Kapadia directorial secured the top spot on the list of Obama’s favourite movies of 2024, followed by Conclave, The Piano Lesson, The Promised Land, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Dune: Part Two, Anora, DIDI, Sugarcane and A Complete Unknown. Sharing the post on his X handle, Obama wrote, “Here are a few movies I’d recommend checking out this year."
As soon as former US president shared the list, fans flooded the comments section with their excitement. One of the users wrote, "Payal kapadia’s #AllWeImagineAsLight made it to the list of Obama’s yearly favourites & he lists it first in the order! Damnnnnn !!!!!!" Another user commented, "Even Obama likes 'All we Imagine as Light' but India has to send in subpar movies showcasing villages to gather sympathy votes at the oscars. Bollywood, Indian cinema, as I knew it, is dead." Another comment of the user read, "All we imagine as light??? The seed of the sacred fig?? Nahh Obama er en fellow cinephile."

About All We Imagine As Light
All We Imagine As Light based on a story of a troubled nurse, Prabha, who receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. The film also shows the journey of Anu, Prabha's young roommate seeking intimacy with her boyfriend. The movie is an Indo-French co-production featuring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam in key roles.
Earlier this year, Payal Kapadia directorial created history by winning the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. It also won Best International Movie at the New York Film Critics Circle. The film has got two nominations at the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards as well.
