Priyadarshan expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with Akshay Kumar for their upcoming horror comedy, Bhoot Bangla, marking their first collaboration in 14 years. The duo has previously worked together on several hit films, including Hera Pheri (2000), Garam Masala (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007). Their last project together was the political satire Khatta Meetha in 2010.
In an interview with PTI at the IIFA Awards in Abu Dhabi, Priyadarshan shared, “Every film I’ve made with him has been a super hit. People say that you are the reason Akshay (does comedy), but I don’t believe in all those things. What I did was exploit his sense of humour (on-screen). We are working after 14 years and I hope things will work. It’s a challenge. We can’t match the expectations (of the audience) but I’m trying my best.”
Priyadarshan praised Kumar, calling him a "director's delight" for his disciplined approach and punctuality. “He is a dedicated actor who comes on time and listens to the director,” he added.

The filmmaker is also looking forward to the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which is set to hit theatres this Diwali. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film follows the success of the second part of the franchise, which was released in 2022. Priyadarshan commented positively on Bazmee’s work, stating, “Anees Bazmee did a good job with the second part of Bhool Bhulaiyaa. I think he will do the third part also well.”
Despite his excitement for these projects, Priyadarshan revealed he is not interested in directing sequels to his own films. He believes that films should be made only once, as sequels often struggle to meet the high expectations set by their predecessors. "I think it is better to make one film than to make sequels. I prefer other people to make sequels (of my films)," he stated. Recently honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema Award at the IIFA Utsavam, Priyadarshan continues to influence the Indian film industry with his unique storytelling and directorial skills.
