Rajan Shahi’s production house has released an official statement addressing the tragic death of a camera assistant on the sets of the popular television show Anupamaa. The incident occurred on November 14, 2024, when Ajit Kumar, an apprentice camera attendant, suffered an electric shock while handling equipment without protective footwear. The statement describes the incident as “purely a human error.”
As per IANS, the press release, titled “An unfortunate accident during the shooting of the TV serial Anupamaa at Film City,” emphasized the production house’s commitment to safety and well-being on set. It detailed how Kumar accidentally picked up a light rod and camera simultaneously, leading to the fatal mishap. Although immediate medical help was provided and Kumar was rushed to the hospital, he could not be saved.

Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut Production and Shahi Production Pvt. Ltd., known for popular shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Bidaai, expressed their sorrow over the incident. The statement highlighted that the company has always prioritized creating a safe and respectful working environment for its team. “We consider them a part of our family,” the release stated.
Following the accident, the production house took steps to support Kumar’s family. Arrangements were made for his family members to travel from Patna, and all medical and hospital expenses were covered. The statement also mentioned that compensation was provided to the family, who expressed their gratitude in a letter. Additionally, the insurance benefits will be disbursed to the nominee.
The statement further underlined the company’s efforts to address the situation responsibly, saying they have kept industry bodies like the Producers Guild of India and Federation of Western India Cine Employees informed.
“We remain committed to supporting our team members in such circumstances,” the production house said, extending their condolences to Kumar’s family. It also warned against spreading false rumours about the incident, stating that legal action would be taken if necessary.
