At the audio launch of Kanguva in Chennai, Rajinikanth shared that the movie was originally written for him. The veteran actor made this shocking revelation in a video message where he also extended his good wishes to the entire team. Rajinikanth further shared that he and director Siva discussed his casting in the film during the shooting of the 2021 movie Annaatthe. At the end of the clip, the legendary suprestar also shared that the lead actor of Kanguva Suriya did not about his discussion with Siva. 

Rajinikanth jokingly said, “I told Siva to write a period film for me, it’ll be very good if we work on it together. He said he’ll definitely think about it. So, when he wrote the story, Gnanavel Raja (of Studio Green production house) must have been like, this is very good. Let’s change it a little and make a film. But Suriya didn’t know anything about this. Anyways, Siva will make me another period film.” 

“I see Sivakumar’s grace, attitude, honesty and intelligence in Suriya, he is such a gentleman. Suriya has all his father’s qualities in him, a lion’s kid can’t be a cat. He puts his heart and soul into every film he makes, to make something special for the audience. I pray for Kanguva’s success,” he added. 

Kanguva is a periodic film that revolves around a tribal warrior’s struggles to save his people and his link to a shadow cop's dangerous investigation in the present. The movie stars Suriya Sivakumar, Disha Patani, Bobby Deol, Aarash Shah, Redin Kingsley, Yogi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, Kovai Sarala and Jagapathi Babu in key roles. Kanguva was released in theatres on November 14, 2024.
