Rajkumar Hirani, celebrated for his iconic movies like the 'Munnabhai' series, '3 Idiots', and 'PK', is set to make his debut in the world of OTT with a show on Disney+ Hotstar. The 61-year-old director, fresh from his success with the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Dunki', is excited about this new venture where he takes on the role of a showrunner.
In a recent virtual interview with PTI, Hirani shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming project, stating, "I'm doing an OTT show, which we actually start shooting this month. I'm a showrunner for that, I'm not directing it. It's a show for Hotstar (Disney Hotstar) and Vikrant Massey is playing a role in it. It's something I'm very happy about with the script and the way it has panned out. On this show, I’m involved and it’s in my own space.”
Vikrant Massey, known for his versatile performances in superhit films like '12th Fail', is expected to bring a fresh perspective to Hirani's storytelling. The show promises to deliver a unique and engaging experience for the audience. Hirani also revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic provided him with the time to work on more scripts. In addition to the OTT project, he has a couple of feature film ideas in mind that he plans to develop shortly. Reflecting on this creative process, he shared, "I'm working on more scripts now in a month or so and we'll start deciding where we will go.”

Addressing the long-standing question about the third instalment of the beloved 'Munnabhai' series, Hirani expressed his desire to revisit the iconic characters played by Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. He confirmed having multiple scripts, including titles like 'Munna Bhai Chale America,' 'Munna Bhai BA LLB,' and 'Munna Bhai Chal Basse.' However, he emphasized the importance of not making the film merely for financial success but rather for a compelling and impactful narrative.
"It's not that I don’t want to do it, 100 per cent I want to do it because I had fun making those films. After every film, I’ve tried to write one 'Munnabhai.' So, I've five unfinished Munna Bhai scripts lying with me with various titles," Hirani shared.

Despite the success of his films, Hirani remains humble and grateful for the enduring impact of his debut movie, 'Munnabhai MBBS', which continues to resonate with audiences even two decades after its release. The filmmaker expressed his gratitude, saying, "I just feel gratitude towards life because nobody thought that films that were made 20 years ago would still be talked about, the lingo, the dialogues will still be in the psyche of this generation and you will still see memes."
As fans eagerly await Hirani's OTT debut and potential future projects, the filmmaker continues to bask in the success of "Dunki," which has garnered over ₹409 crore globally since its release on December 21. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Boman Irani, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover, among others.
