Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case: Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been granted bail by the Delhi High Court in the long-running Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. The actor had been lodged in Tihar Jail since 5 February after failing to comply with earlier payment commitments made before the court.

The court resumed the bail hearing at 3:00 pm on Monday after earlier giving Yadav time to arrange a demand draft of Rs 1.5 crore. Once the payment was submitted, the court ordered his release. As part of the bail conditions, Yadav has been asked to surrender his passport. The matter will now be heard again on March 18.

Why Was Rajpal Yadav Arrested?

The case dates back to 2010 when Rajpal Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murli Projects Private Limited to finance his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. The film did not perform well at the box office, and he was unable to repay the loan. Over the years, interest and penalties increased the total outstanding amount to nearly Rs 9 crore. Several cheques issued by the actor reportedly bounced, leading to legal proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The court had earlier directed him to settle the dues, but he failed to honour the agreed terms.

Delhi Court Grants Relief To Rajpal Yadav After Payment

The Delhi High Court granted bail after Yadav deposited Rs 1.5 crore to the complainant. The payment was a key condition for his temporary release. The court also took into account his request for interim relief to attend his niece’s wedding scheduled for 19 February in Shahjahanpur. His legal team had requested time to arrange the funds earlier in the day, which the court allowed until 3:00 pm.

Bollywood Celebrities Extend Support To Rajpal Yadav

Following his arrest, several Bollywood personalities came forward to support Rajpal Yadav. Actor Sonu Sood publicly offered help and said he would sign Yadav for his next project. He also encouraged others in the industry to support the actor financially. Reports suggested that Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn were among those who extended financial assistance. Other names mentioned include Varun Dhawan, Gurmeet Choudhary, Guru Randhhawa, Elvish Yadav and members of film bodies such as the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which urged the industry to provide both moral and financial support. Rajpal Yadav’s wife, Radha, thanked members of the film fraternity for standing by the family during this difficult time.

For now, Rajpal Yadav will remain out on bail until the next hearing on March 18, when the Delhi High Court will review the case again.
