Despite facing criticism for its controversial depiction of women, misogyny, and intense violence, 'Animal,' released on December 1, emerged as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2023. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the action drama recently made its digital debut on Netflix on January 26, reigniting discussions around the movie. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri. Amidst this, Ranbir, in a discussion with stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi for Netflix India, acknowledges the influential role of cinema in initiating important conversations, emphasising that 'Animal' has triggered a 'healthy' discussion surrounding toxic masculinity.
The actor said, "There is a very healthy conversation that has started about toxic masculinity, which is a great thing because cinema, at least, it starts a conversation. If something is wrong, if you don’t show that it is wrong, and unless the conversation starts in society, we will never realise it."
"But as an audience, you decide what's wrong. You can make a film on the wrong person and it should be made. Because if you don't make a film on them, society will never improve," Ranbir added.
Ranbir on Animal Park
As fans eagerly await the sequel titled 'Animal Park,' Ranbir Kapoor has shared some intriguing updates about the project. The actor revealed that many people involved in the film weren't fully aware of the story during its production. He further confirmed that Sandeep Reddy Vanga has already prepared two scenes for Animal Park and has shared them with him. "Bobby (Deol) sir had no idea about the story. Anil (Kapoor) sir knew the father-son story. But there were many aspects where Sandeep was very secretive about his script. Regarding Animal Park, he (Vanga) has one or two scenes ready, which he narrated to me, and they are very exciting," Ranbir disclosed, adding, "Now, because of the success of part one, he has the confidence and courage to go even darker, deeper and more complex. He can do anything."
