Shabana Azmi’s latest Netflix web series Dabba Cartel has been making headlines for several reasons. Recently, the actress addressed the comparison of her show with Dimple Kapadia’s 2023 web series, Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo. She shared that she was initially worried about the comparison but got relieved when her daughter-in-law and co-creator Shibani Akhtar dismissed such confusion. Azmi further explained how their shows are different from each other. The veteran actress further called her web series Dabba Cartel ‘realistic’ which is about middle class women. 

In an interview with India Today, Shabana Azmi said “Prior to watching the show, I was concerned that we would be directly compared to the show. However, Shibani (Shibani Akhtar) was confident and assured me that it won’t happen. Seeing her belief, I was also relieved. And when I watched the show, it was really a well-made show, but it is quite different from ours.” 

“They have a completely different setup, quite exotic. Their outfits are very unique and they also have a specific dialect. Our show is very realistic, about these middle-class women. Hence, I really don’t think there is any comparison,” she added. 

Dabba Cartel revolves around five middle class women, who run a tiffin service business, but soon their lives change when they enter the world of a drug cartel. The show stars Shabana Azmi, Jyotika, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand and Nimisha Sajayan in the lead roles. It also features Jisshu Sengupta, Gajraj Rao, Lillete Dubey, Sai Tamhankar and Bhupendra Singh Jadawat in supporting roles. The creators of the show are Akanksha Seda, Vishnu Menon, Gaurav Kapoor, Shibani Akhtar. 

On the other hand, Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo is about a family which led by a woman runs biggest drug cartel in South Asia. The story follows how a mother in law and her two daughter in law run the business. The show features Dimple Kapadia, Isha Talwar, Radhika Madan and Angira Dhar. The 2023 series is streaming on JioHotstar.
