Shabana Azmi has shared her thoughts on the current trend of re-releasing classic movies and her upcoming project with Zeenat Aman. The trend of re-releasing older films has gained traction in Bollywood, with recent examples like the 2018 film Laila Majnu making headlines for surpassing its original box office collection shortly after its re-release. When asked about this phenomenon in a conversation with Hindustan Times, Azmi expressed scepticism. She noted, "I don’t think that re-releasing a film is the answer, because everything today is so easily available."

Azmi acknowledged that re-releases offer younger audiences a chance to reconnect with the simplicity of classic cinema, but she believes that the current entertainment landscape offers a plethora of choices. She remarked, "There is so much stimuli for the young mind today... These films had their significance during their time."

Despite her reservations about re-releases, Azmi appreciates the lasting impact of some of her own films. With a career spanning over 50 years, she has seen many of her films, including Ankur (1974), Mandi (1983) and Masoom (1983), leave a lasting impression. She also noted the enduring popularity of Makdee (2002) among younger audiences and acknowledged that many now know her primarily from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023).
