Border 2, inspired by real-life Indian Army, Navy and Air Force heroes, takes place during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Who Is Nirmal Jit Sekhon’s Wife Manjit Kaur?

Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, a flying officer, was killed at the young age of 26. He was a pilot in the Indian Air Force and the only officer to have received the Param Vir Chakra. It is the highest military honour in India. For his outstanding courage during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, he was awarded the same. But beyond the officer's valiant exterior lay the tale of sacrifice, love, and grief told by his wife, Manjit. At a very young age, Manjit married Flying Officer Nirmal, whose sacrifice and dedication had a profound impact on her life.

The late Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon and Manjit reportedly got married in February 1971. The couple got married in Ludhiana, according to an Indian Air Force officer who spoke with The Quint in 2015. He was martyred only ten months after getting married. Manjit was only 26 when the officer died, leaving him behind.

Manit Kaur later married for the second time in her life following the death of her late husband, Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, according to a Times of India report.

Sonam Bajwa's portrayal of Manjit accurately captures the family life of a young officer whose wife quickly became a widow.

Sonam Bajwa disclosed that Anurag informed her that she was the first person he thought of for Manjeet in a recent interview. The actor was grateful for the opportunity to play Manjit, and she saw Border 2 as a dream project. "Director Anurag Singh told me that when he was thinking about the character of Manjeet, my name was the first that came to his mind. That truly means a lot to me. The moment I came to know that work on Border 2 was starting, the film became a dream project for me. Being a part of such a historic and emotional project is special for every artist," she said. 

Border 2 Cast, Plot Details And Box Office Report

The anticipation for Border 2, which debuted in theatres on January 23, 2026, is unabated. The stars of the war film Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh, Anya, and Medha Rana are among the film's outstanding cast members.

The movie is set during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War and is a follow-up to the iconic Border from 1997. Throughout the film, the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force carried out numerous synchronised actions. The film features a strong ensemble cast that blends real narrative with patriotic themes.

Border 2 has already made over Rs 250 crore at the box office worldwide. The war film is just the seventh Hindi film since last year to earn more than Rs 250 crore at the global box office. It exceeded the lifetime receipts of major motion pictures like Ajay Devgn's Raid 2 (Rs 243 crore) and Salman Khan's Sikandar (Rs 184 crore) on Monday. The movie is currently aiming for Rs 300 crore, and by Wednesday, it should hit that milestone.

Border 2 saw significant box office gains, building on favourable reviews over the long Republic Day weekend.
