Sonam Kapoor reflects on roles and ageing in a recent chat with The Dirty Magazine. Sonam Kapoor discussed her evolving career and personal life, shedding light on her experiences since becoming a mother. At 39, Kapoor, who lives in London with her husband Anand Ahuja and frequently visits India, shared her thoughts on being offered roles meant for much younger actresses.
Kapoor revealed that she has been approached for parts typically played by 20-somethings, including roles of schoolgirls and young women on the brink of marriage. "It's flattering but also weird," she said. "It doesn’t make sense to offer me these roles, considering my age and life stage." Kapoor humorously noted that even though modern technology allows for actors to be de-aged, she isn’t keen on it. "Can you imagine me de-aged?" she added, laughing off the idea.
Despite the unusual casting choices, Kapoor expressed gratitude that people still see her as youthful. She compared herself to her younger cousins, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, acknowledging that while she may not look as young as them, she’s thankful for the perception that she hasn’t aged much.
Kapoor took a hiatus from acting after the birth of her son Vayu in 2022. Her last film role was in Shome Makhija's 2023 thriller Blind, where she played a visually impaired investigator. Kapoor’s previous work includes The Zoya Factor (2019) and a cameo in Ak vs Ak (2020), where she appeared alongside her father, Anil Kapoor and brother, Harshvardhan Kapoor.
