Amar Kaushik, the director of Stree 2, has finally spoken about the recent comparisons between his film's poster and that of Stranger Things. Fans and netizens have been pointing out striking similarities between the promotional material of the horror-comedy, which stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, and the popular Netflix series. Many also drew parallels to Harry Potter.
In an interview with India Today, Amar clarified that the similarities were purely coincidental and unintentional. He emphasized that neither the poster nor the film’s climax was intended to resemble Stranger Things or Harry Potter. Amar explained, “I haven’t watched Harry Potter myself, though my team has, and they always make sure to let me know if any scene seems similar to another popular series. While I’ve watched Stranger Things, a lot of our scenes in Stree 2 are rooted in our cultural context. For example, the climax, where Vicky’s kindness and innocence help fight Stree, ties into the theme of the first film. In Stree 2, Raj’s character doesn’t have any superpowers; his kindness is his strength.”
Addressing the poster comparisons specifically, Amar admitted that the team hadn’t realized the resemblance to Stranger Things until after the design was finalized. “The designer created it, we liked it and later we noticed the similarities. I understand the audience is more intelligent than the filmmaker in catching these things, and plagiarism is something we’d never want to be accused of. If we had known earlier, we would have changed it,” he added.
