Stree 2 vs Khel Khel Mein vs Vedaa: This Independence Day, the box office is buzzing with competition as three major Hindi films hit theaters including Stree 2 featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, and Vedaa starring John Abraham and Sharvari. Early buzz indicates that the horror-comedy Stree 2 is emerging as the front-runner, drawing substantial attention as it heads into the box office clash. Whereas Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein appears to be less pronounced.
According to trade reports, Stree 2 is currently in the lead, with its first-day advance bookings exceeding Rs 10 crore, surpassing the pre-sales of Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 and Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. The sequel to the 2018 hit, seems to have rekindled the audience's enthusiasm.
A report from Sacnilk reveals that Vedaa has garnered advance bookings close to Rs 49 lakh, while Khel Khel Mein has secured nearly Rs 45 lakh, both falling significantly behind the horror-comedy Stree 2. Notably, this isn’t the first time Akshay Kumar and John Abraham's films have clashed on August 15; they previously competed with Gold versus Satyameva Jayate and Mission Mangal versus Batla House. However, this time the rivalry appears to be more one-sided. The lingering question is whether the competition will turn out to be a close race or if Stree 2 will dominate decisively.
About Stree 2
Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank is directed by Amar Kaushik and penned by Niren Bhatt. This sequel to Stree (2018) is the fifth entry in the Maddock Supernatural Universe. Starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, the film is produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande under Maddock Films and Jio Studios. Supporting roles are played by Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana.
Set for a theatrical release on August 15, 2024, the film continues from the events of Stree, depicting how the small town of Chanderi is now terrorized by a headless creature abducting women. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not require any visual cuts for Stree 2. However, the board requested two audio changes: removing a celebrity's name and muting the mention of a national monument. Following these adjustments, the film received a U/A rating and has a runtime of 149 minutes.
