Renowned filmmaker Sudhir Mishra recently talked about the record-breaking success of Netflix's British series Adolescence in India. The Serious Men director shared his happiness about the success of the Netflix show and called it ‘best news in years’, despite differing from the usual script writing that is practised in the country. He also mentioned what Indian viewers usually loved to watch. Mishra stated that Indians are not supposed to like slow-burning content.
Sudhir Mishra wrote on X, “How come Adolescence is the No 1 show on Netflix india . All conventional wisdom is against it . Indians are not supposed to like slow Burners . It violates every rule of taught by bad script writing schools . It spirals down instead of soaring up . It’s the best news in years.” Several social media users reacted to the post and shared their opinion. A user said, “if the West likes it, we will generally watch it to virtue signal and sound cool at parties.” Another user wrote, “How is a show with four episodes a slow burner? Oh my god, we need to learn from Sudhir for our Oscars. Right.” A tweet read, “Each episode as a single take! Astounding. Is take ki subah nahin!.”

This is not the first time, the filmmaker has appreciated the show on X. In March, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur wrote on X, “I’m not the first one to say this but #Adolescence from #Netflix redefines what truly great series can achieve. Its defies the regular 3 act structure of cause and effect and plunges you deeply into the minds of the characters and allows you to reflect upon yourself ..” Reacting to Kapur’s tweet, Sudhir wrote on X “Nobody will let us do something like that . One should do it as an independent film . Something of our own which is wanders , then stops , digs and goes where the smell takes us.”
