Actor Bijili Ramesh passed away in Chennai on August 27 due to a prolonged illness.The 46-year-old actor's final rites are scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, near MGR Nagar, Chennai. Ramesh had been undergoing treatment for liver-related issues, and his family had previously reached out to colleagues for financial assistance to support his treatment.
Bijili Ramesh first gained widespread fame in 2018 after appearing in a viral prank video by a sketch group on YouTube, which made him a pop culture sensation. That same year, he was featured in a special promotional song for Nayanthara and director Nelson Dilipkumar’s Kolamaavu Kokila. He subsequently made his acting debut in Tamil cinema and went on to appear in several films, including Hip Hop Adhi's Natpe Thunai, Amala Paul's Aadai, Jyotika's Ponmagal Vandhal, and Jayam Ravi's Comali, among others.
Nelson Dilipkumar played a pivotal role in transforming Bijili Ramesh from a YouTube star into a cinema personality, featuring him in a special appearance for a song. Following this, Bijili Ramesh appeared in several Tamil films, including Natpe Thunai, Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal, Ponmagal Vandhal, Aadai, and Sivappu Manjal Pachai. Although his roles were mostly brief, and he did not land a major break, he also entertained audiences through television appearances.
Bijili Ramesh, who struggled with alcohol addiction, suffered from chronic illness that led to significant liver damage. He publicly discussed his health issues in a YouTube interview, where he appeared visibly weakened and admitted to his alcohol consumption while seeking help. The emotional video garnered widespread attention and elicited a wave of support from fans who hoped for his recovery. Tragically, Bijili Ramesh succumbed to his illness on the night of August 26.
Bijili Ramesh also appeared as a participant on Vijay Television's cooking reality show, Cooku With Comali. A dedicated Rajinikanth fan, Ramesh primarily took on comedy roles throughout his career. Unfortunately, in recent months, he was confined to his bed due to his illness.
His passing has shocked both fans and fellow actors.
