New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Ajay Devgn, Kajol-starrer periodic drama Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior released today. The film traces the life of the fierce Maratha warrior, Tanhaji Malusare, who was one of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s closest aides and a military leader.

The film started with Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Sharad Kelkar) surrendering 23 forts to Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb (Luke Kenny) including the Kondhana (now called Sinhagad), which was of strategic importance.

Following the surrender of the fort, Rajmata Jijabai (Padmavati Rao) vowed to walk barefoot till the fort is recaptured by the Marathas and started planning to reclaim the fort. Four years later, Aurangzeb sent his fierce warrior Udaybhan (Saif Ali Khan) with a huge army and a massive canon called 'naagin' to ensure that Shivaji Maharaj cannot reclaim the fort.

While planning the campaign to reclaim the fort, Shivaji Maharaj does not want to send his trusted lieutenant and dear friend, Subedar Tanhaji Malusare on the battlefield, as the latter's son is about to get married. But when Tanhaji got to know about the Muhim (Campaign) he beseeched Shivaji Maharaj to give him an opportunity to reclaim the Kondhana fort.

With a lot of struggles, Tanhaji managed to make inroads into the fort that is considered impregnable. During his journey, Savitribai (Kajol) proved to be his silent support. In the end, the audience witnessed a fierce battle between the deadly Udaybhan and Tanhaji Malsure.

Talking about the acting, Ajay Devgn again proved his mettle playing the braveheart Maratha warrior with a powerful performance. He dwells so well into the role keeping the patriotic passion high at all times. On the other hand, Kajol in her limited screen time made a convincing performance.

While the antagonist, Saif Ali Khan as Udatbhan overpowers every character in the film. He showcased the devilish and brutal character with finesse and ferocity, with a ting of humour laughing at his own jokes. This performance can be considered as Saif’s one of the most outstanding performances. Sharad Kelkar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj looks the part and brings the required gravitas to the part of the warrior-king.
