Director Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Kashmir Files' released in March 2022 sparked a string of controversy in the nation. Opened to big numbers, the film was up for debate on every media portal and was a blockbuster hit at the box office.
The film presented a fictional storyline revolving around the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Indian-administered Kashmir. The scenes of the film depicted the exodus and the events leading up to it as a genocide. The makers of 'The Kashmir Files' claim that the facts shown in the film were suppressed by a conspiracy of silence by the government of India.
