The controversial film "The Kerala Story," directed by Sudipto Sen, has generated significant buzz in the nation due to its sensitive subject matter. Despite facing several controversies and bans, the film has crossed the milestone of Rs 200 crore in India.
However, on its 20th day of release, "The Kerala Story" experienced its lowest single-day collection of Rs 3.20 crore. The film witnessed a decline in the past week, and it remains to be seen whether the collection will see an upturn during the coming weekend.
The film "The Kerala Story," featuring Adah Sharma in the lead role, made its theatrical debut on May 5. While some people criticised it as a propaganda film, others expressed their appreciation for it.
This week, the movie saw a dip in numbers, reaching its lowest single-day earnings on May 24. As a result, the film's total collection after 20 days stands now at Rs 210.17 crore. On Wednesday, “The Kerala Story” witnessed a Hindi occupancy rate of 13.24 per cent.
About The Kerala Story
The plot of "The Kerala Story" revolves around a Hindu woman from Kerala, portrayed by Adah Sharma, who undergoes indoctrination to convert to Islam and is subsequently sent to Syria where she is compelled to join the ISIS terrorist group and subjected to torture. Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film has attracted scrutiny since the release of its trailer.
In the first trailer of the movie, it was asserted that 32,000 women from the state had been subjected to forced conversion into Islam. However, following legal intervention, the filmmakers modified the trailer's description, revising it from the "story of 32,000 women" to that of three women.
During an interview with ETimes, Sudipto shared that he dedicated seven years to bringing this project to fruition and had a strong belief in its potential success.
"It was always meant to be a story about three friends who happen to be women. That's why the movie exclusively tells the subject of women getting brainwashed. It was not a premeditated plan. Currently, I've been offered a project by a producer as a follow-up to The Kerala Story about the radicalisation of boys," he said.
