Despite the controversies surrounding The Kerala Story, the movie was released in theatres on May 5 and has performed well at the box office. It achieved the milestone of crossing the Rs 200 crore mark on the 18th day. However, its collection has since slowed down. According to early trade estimates, on the 31st day, June 4, the film earned Rs 2.05 crore, bringing its total collection to Rs 236.27 crore. This brings the film closer to the Rs 240 crore milestone. Additionally, on June 4, The Kerala Story had an overall occupancy rate of 26.55 per cent in Hindi.

About The Kerala Story:

The plot of The Kerala Story revolves around a female protagonist, portrayed by Adah Sharma, who hails from Kerala and is coerced into adopting Islam. She is subsequently sent to Syria, where she becomes an unwilling member of the terrorist organisation ISIS and endures severe torture. Sudipto Sen serves as the director of the film, which is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. Since the release of the trailer, The Kerala Story has attracted considerable scrutiny and controversy.

Initially, the movie asserted that 32,000 women from Kerala were forced to convert and join the terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS). However, amid the controversies surrounding the film, the number was subsequently revised to three.

The movie encountered a shadow ban in Tamil Nadu, and the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, additionally prohibited its screening in the state.
