Prepare to be thrilled as the countdown begins for the much-anticipated release of the upcoming series 'Commando,' starring the dynamic Adah Sharma alongside debutant Prem Parrijaa. Produced by the esteemed Sunshine Pictures Pvt Ltd and masterfully brought to life under the creative vision of producer-director Vipul Amrutlal Shah, this exhilarating series is set to release on August 11, 2023, on Disney+ Hotstar.

Emerging from its cinematic roots, the Commando franchise has undergone a transformative evolution, blossoming into a remarkable trilogy that spans the years 2013, 2017, and 2019. Throughout this exhilarating journey, Vidyut Jammwal commanded the spotlight as the formidable titular character, captivating audiences with his prowess. Notably, Adah Sharma's presence alongside Jammwal in the second and third installments added a dynamic dimension to the series.

Having carved a mark in the film domain over three riveting parts, the Commando series now embarks on a new trajectory. Shedding its cinematic cocoon, it emerges as a dynamic OTT show, introducing a fresh narrative anchored by the talents of Prem Parrijaa and Adah Sharma. In an exclusive interview with Jagran English, Adah Sharma and Prem Parrijaa delve into the heart of their series, sharing insights on the pulse-pounding action, their immersive experiences, their admiration for the original Commando figure, Vidyut Jammwal, and much more.

What motivated you to be a part of this project?

Adah: I played Bhavna Reddy in 2 & 3, and then I didn't want anyone else to play Bhavna Reddy in this because only I want to play that character. Then I asked them who is playing Commando this time; they said Prem. I said okay, naam to acha hai, but does he like animals? They said yes, he is an animal lover. Then I said okay, I will do it. Then I didn't read the script or contract, and I signed it. And I was on to play it.

Prem: I have been living with this dream to become an actor since I was 11 years old. To get an opportunity to play Commando and take this franchise forward is enough motivation for me to do anything.

What was your preparation for action sequences?

Adah: We both got to do some incredible action as Vipul sir got Jackie Chan's action coordinator, Andy Long. He and his team are really good. They create this unique action that you have not seen before, and all the action enthusiasts are really gonna enjoy. Prem and I are doing some stuff with various objects that you have not seen action being done before with. It's a very creative form of action.

You are stepping into the shoes of Vidyut, do you feel that pressure?

Prem: He has taken this name and made it into a brand that someone like me aspires to be. When someone like me comes in, and in my debut only, everyone wants to watch it because he has taken the standard right up there. I feel extremely fortunate, extremely grateful to Vidyut sir that he is as good as he is. He is a fantastic action hero. When there is a benchmark to look at, it helps me work harder and try to reach there. I want to do my best, and "hero heera tab he banta hai jab pressure hota hai."

Did you feel Vidyut's absence while filming Commando?

Adah: Vidyut is a very close friend of mine. Now Prem is also a friend of mine; we have shot together. Vidyut also doesn't come from the industry, neither do I; we are outsiders. We both know how difficult it is to get an opportunity to shine, to get a role like that. Now, after the Kerala story, if I had 0.01 percent of privilege because I have got a successful film, I feel if I can be part of someone's debut journey in the industry and where he gets the opportunity to shine, I would consider myself so lucky that I can be a part of this. I am sure every person, Vidyut or me or every other person who is not from the industry or aspiring to be an actor, I see them only thinking positively and cheering this thought that another outsider gets such a big opportunity to start a career with. So how can there be any form of me making it about myself?

If you miss someone in your personal life, you can meet them or make a call to get away from missing away but you can't take that away from somebody else who is getting that opportunity, and we are only going to celebrate him.

After The Kerala Story's success, do you feel any pressure of the reception of Commando?

Adah: If Commando is action and people expect me to do action properly, that's correct. Please expect me to do it properly; do not give me a discount if I have done a bad job. Call me out if I have given bad performances, mediocre acting, or if I have done 'dheela' action. If it's not good, I will be very happy if people say something because then only, if I am good, will they say something as well. So please, I love that pressure.

Please have very high expectations from me so I can also deliver. It's good if people think like that. You only expect things from people who are close to you. If someone doesn't matter to you, you say, "Whatever they are doing, I don't care." I find it nice that people have a keen interest in my career and have taken a personal interest in it, where they are like, "Acha, Adah kar rahi hai," then it should be nice. I will be very happy, and I hope that continues and doesn't go away.
