Regardless of how well-liked Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ is among critics, the movie could not be fully appropriate for kids. Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie-starrer hit the theatres on July 21, 2023 and had been doing wonders at the global Box Office. In the movie, a stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie) who lives in Barbie Land begins to malfunction. She therefore travels to the real world with her friend Ken (Ryan Gosling) to learn how to correct herself.

It is evident that Barbie- the doll has been marketed to children since the start, but Greta Gerwig-directorial is appealing to the older audiences more than children. Also, the movie has been rated PG-13 by The Motion Picture Association, which means it is not entirely kid-friendly.

What Is PG-13 Certification?

When a movie is rated PG-13, it indicates that some material may be inappropriate for children under 13 years old, and parental guidance is suggested. This suggests that the movie may contain content such as moderate language, violence, or thematic elements that might not be suitable for very young children.

Soon after her post went viral on social media, netizens took to the comments section and expressed displeasure with her opinion. An Instagram user wrote, “Instead of posting a review based on 10-15 minutes of the movie, maybe try watching the entire thing and then form an opinion? Also in your entire post you give no example of what was even inappropriate in the movie,” another one wrote, “The reason it's PG-13 is because Barbie is a functioning adult and the movie has themes deeper than a child could ever understand,” a netizen also commented, “ I guess you need to understand that this movie is not adult because of why you have mentioned but because it talks about deeper themes like existential crisis, mental health, and patriarchy.”

Jay Bhanushali Calls Barbie ‘Bawasir’

Aapka mansik santulan bacha raha hu. Kyunki issey buri movie maine aaj tak nahi dekhi hai. (I'm saving you. I'm saving your money and mental balance. I haven't seen a worse film than this). It's a super, super, super bad film. Trust me guys ye jitni havua aap dekh rahe hain, koi bolne ke layak bhi nahi hai. Matlab sachi bata raha hu (The hype is all false. Every one is stunned after the movie. I'm telling you the truth) it took two days for me to make this video because main aisa tha ki ye kya film bana di hai, aur promote aisa kar rahe hain ki mujhe laga bachcho ke liye hoga. Lekin na bachchon ke liye hai na bado ke liye.” (I was like what kind of a film they've made, and they've promoted like it's a kids movie. But it's for neither kids nor adults.”
