Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), is one of the hit sitcom, since its debut in 2008. The show has captivated audiences with relatable family-oriented storylines surrounding the lives of the residents of Gokuldham Society with blend of comedic. Among all the characters, Disha Vakani as Dayaben became iconic with her portrayal in the show. Her presence is missed by the viewers from the TMKOC for years now. Recently, the show’s producer Asit Kumarr Modi treated fans with details of actress’ first audition for Dayaben. He also praised Disha Vakani for her acting skills.

TMKOC producer Asit Modi recalled the Dayaben's first audition. In a conversation with SCREEN, he shared, "Disha Vakani is a very fine actor. So when we explained the character to her, our brief was that she is a very innocent lady who looks after her husband, her father-in-law, and her world revolves around her son. Whenever she gets shocked, her reaction is always ‘Hey Ma, Mataji!’, it’s a very common reaction amongst people in Gujarat. During her audition, we were all sitting together, and when she played the part, we all just loved it."

Explaining the reference to Dayaben calling Jethalal from the balcony, he stated, "It comes from my mother. Whenever my father would go to work, he would forget something, and my mother would run behind him, calling him. We bought that innocence in her character, she doing garba was added later.”

Dayaben's famous Garba, which captivated viewers over the years, added more depth to Disha Vakani's character. But do you know why and when the makers decided to incorporate Garba into her role? Asit Modi revealed, "During the first episode, we thought of adding garba in the episode when Bapuji snorted, his hip gets stiff, that is when we decided to try if we could use Garba to rectify his stiffness. That’s how the craze for doing garba started. Daya Bhabhi’s style of garba was her improvisation. While shooting, we all try to take what is written in the script to the next level."

Disha Vakani went on maternity leave in 2017 and never returned to the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah show since then. But fans are waiting for Dayaben's character back in the sitcom. To this, Asit Modi recently revealed that Disha would not be returning and he has shortlisted some people for the role to match the original character essence.
