Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, known for his versatile roles in films like Badlapur, October, and Bhediya, recently shared how he drew inspiration from Amitabh Bachchan's iconic 1991 film Hum while preparing for his dual roles in the upcoming action movie Baby John. The actor revealed that Bachchan's portrayal of two contrasting characters in Hum influenced his approach to the role.
As per PTI, at a press conference for Baby John, Dhawan spoke about how Hum, directed by Mukul Anand, left a lasting impact on him. The film, which starred Bachchan alongside Rajinikanth, Govinda, and others, tells the story of a dock worker named Tiger who reinvents himself as Shekhar to protect his family from his violent past. Dhawan expressed admiration for how Hum showcased Bachchan’s character's past and present in a groundbreaking way, noting that the film was ahead of its time.
"I liked Hum a lot, and it featured Rajinikanth sir, Govinda ji, and Mukul Anand, who is one of my favourite directors. Amit ji's work in the film was iconic, and there's so much to learn from him," Dhawan said. "There's a scene in Hum where Amit ji fights and then runs, and I thought of that while doing this film."

In Baby John, Dhawan plays two roles: Satya Verma, a cop, and his alter ego, John. The film, directed by Kalees, is described by Dhawan as the most emotionally challenging project of his career. He mentioned how some scenes left him emotionally drained, and at times, he even broke down while filming. "Kalees sir would tell me not to get emotional, but sometimes I couldn’t help it," he shared.
The movie also features an exciting soundtrack, with singer Diljit Dosanjh lending his voice to the song "Nain Matakka." Dhawan expressed his gratitude towards Dosanjh for his contribution, adding that they would soon be sharing the screen together in the war drama Border 2.
Baby John also stars Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff. Suresh, making her Bollywood debut with the film, shared her excitement about working with Atlee, the producer of Baby John and director of Jawan. Suresh praised the film's cast, particularly Dhawan, who she said would showcase a different side of himself in this movie.
Gabbi, who has worked in projects like Khufiya and Jubilee, also expressed her excitement about being part of a larger-than-life film like Baby John. "We all grew up watching larger-than-life movies, and I was excited to be part of this world," she said. Produced by Atlee and Murad Khetani, Baby John will be released on December 25.
