Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty will be presented with the highest honour- Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. The  Information & Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the veteran actor will be honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. The actor will be awarded at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony to be held in New Delhi on October 8, 2024. The minister tweeted, “Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. To be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on Oct 8, 2024.”

While reacting to this happy occasion in his life, Mithun told ANI "I don’t have words. Neither I can laugh nor cry. This is such a big thing… I could not have imagined this. I am extremely happy. I dedicate this to my family and my fans across the world." 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reacted after the legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty was conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He wrote on X, "Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him." 

Earlier this year in April, Mithun Chakraborty was awarded with Padma Bhushan. The veteran actor received the honour from President Droupadi Murmu. 

Mithun Chakraborty debuted with the 1977 movie Mrigayaa. He got the National Film Award for Best Actor for his first movie. His career spanning almost two decades now has given him wide recognition from across the globe. The actor starred in many blockbuster movies including Disco Dancer, Phool Aur Angaar, Mard, Agneepath, Ravan Raaj: A True Story, Jeete Hain Shaan Se, Loha and The Don to name a few. 

His last Bollywood movie is The Kashmir Files. Vivek Agnihotri's 2022 directorial also stars Bhasha Sumbli, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, Anupam Kher, Chinmay Mandlekar and Mrinal Kulkarni in key roles. It is currently streaming on Zee5. 

The actor will be next seen in the Bengali movie Shastri. The movie also features Debashree Roy, Soham Chakraborty, Ritwick Chakraborty and Ritwick Chakraborty in prominent roles. The movie is scheduled to be released in theatres on October 8, 2024.
