Malayalam actress Kaviyoor Pannamma death: Renowned Malayalam actress Kaviyoor Ponnamma passed away on Friday at the age of 79, following a prolonged battle with age-related health issues. She took her last breath at a private hospital in Kochi, where she had been undergoing treatment for several months. A veteran of the Malayalam film industry, Ponnamma leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances and contributions to the world of cinema. Her passing marks the end of an era and has sent shockwaves throughout the film community, with colleagues and fans mourning the loss of a talented artist.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his deep sorrow over the actress’s demise. He wrote on X, “An important chapter in Malayalam cinema comes to a close with the passing of Kaviyoor Ponnamma, who embodied the essence of motherhood on screen for decades. Her effortless portrayals of Malayali women have left an indelible mark on our collective memory. Heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and all those who cherish Malayalam cinema.”

Kaviyoor Ponnamma (September 10, 1945 – September 20, 2024) was a veteran Indian actress who left an indelible mark on Malayalam cinema and television. Beginning her artistic journey on the theatre stage, she seamlessly transitioned to the silver screen, captivating audiences with her versatile talent. Ponnamma's impressive filmography spanned decades, with iconic roles that earned her the affectionate title "Mother to all actors." Remarkably, she played mother to almost every leading actor in Malayalam cinema, including legends like Sathyan, Madhu, and Mohanlal. Her portrayal of Mohanlal's mother, in particular, garnered widespread critical acclaim.

Throughout her illustrious career, Ponnamma's dedication to her craft was recognised with numerous accolades, including four Kerala State Film Awards for Second Best Actress. Her familial legacy in the entertainment industry was further cemented by her sister, Kaviyoor Renuka, who also pursued an acting career.
