Vicky Kaushal Reveals Reason Behind Accepting Cameo Role In Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki: ‘I Would Happily Do…’

Vicky Kaushal's brief yet impactful appearance in Rajkumar Hirani's ‘Dunki’ has been the talk of the town since the movie’s release on December 21, 2023. Known for his stellar performances, Kaushal's portrayal in the movie has earned him widespread praise. In a recent conversation with The Week Magazine, the actor opened up about his decision to take on the cameo role and his admiration for the acclaimed director.

Kaushal expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Hirani again after their successful collaboration in ‘Sanju’. He shared, "I told Raju sir (Rajkumar Hirani) that even if he had wanted me to simply pass by unnoticed, I would happily do that as well." The actor's father, renowned action director Sham Kaushal, who was working on the film, played a crucial role in Kaushal landing the part. When Sham Kaushal inquired about the character Sukhi's (Vicky Kaushal’s role) fire sequence, Hirani mentioned wanting someone like Vicky Kaushal but hadn't considered him for the role initially. Upon hearing this, Kaushal wasted no time reaching out to Hirani and expressing his interest in the part.

Despite not having read the script, Kaushal accepted the role immediately and only watched the film for the first time during its screening. He was particularly impressed by the portrayal of Punjab in the film, stating, "I was happy to see Punjab like that after a long time. At a time when everything is gritty and real, where we see the problems and struggles of states, he actually gave a vibrant, colourful charm to Punjab."
