India's Got Latent: Popular stand-up comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina launched India's Got Latent on June 14, 2024. The show gives a platform to contestants from across the country to show their abilities and hidden talents from dancing and singing to standup comedy and more. Notably, the show has been inspired by Kill Tony, a podcast recorded live from Austin. Raina’s India’s Got Latent also feature Balraj Singh Ghai. It has a motto attached to it which says, “An unnecessary reality show, with no point, just like life.”
India's Got Latent Format
As said earlier, contestants across the nation get a platform where they can showcase their hidden talents in 90 seconds. From singing, poetry and dancing to dark comedy, to anything they wish to show to the world. Before they start their performance, they have to score themselves out of 10. After their stint, the hosts and special guests will give lighthearted remarks on their performances. They will also rate the contestants, if the average of the Judges’ marks and the participants' self-assessment scores match, they will win the show. The contestant then takes all the earnings from the day’s ticket sales. Notably, in this show, the Judges are changed in every episode except Samay being the constant one.
India's Got Latent Judges
Several top names from the industry have been featured as Judges in the show including Nishant Tanwar, Aashish Solanki, Raftaar, Tanmay Bhat, Poonam Pandey, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Neeti Palta, Maheep Singh, Uorfi Javed, Naman Arora, Badshah, Raghu Ram, Gursimran Khamba, Rakhi Sawant, Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa, Avika Gor, Tony Kakkar and Ranveer Allahbadia.
India's Got Latent Controversies
The show often found itself in the middle of controversies due to some dark jokes that either do not go well with netizens or the Judges themselves. Rakhi Sawant, who once appeared in the show threw a chair on the stage after she had an argument with comedian Maheep Singh. In another instance, Uorfi Javed walked out of the show when a contestant asked her about her body count. Raina faced legal action sometime back when a remark was made on dogs by a contestant from Arunachal Pradesh. In a recent episode, comedian Jaspreet Singh made fun remarks on the contestant’s political views and also commented on the literacy rate in Kerala.
Ranveer Allahbadia’s Comment On India's Got Latent
In a recent episode, popular content creators like Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija featured in the show. In the same, Allahbadia also known for his YouTube channel named BeerBiceps, asked a contestant “Watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?” The clip of the same went viral on social media and created a rage among the netizens.
On Monday, Ranveer made a public apology video where he said, “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s got latent. I’m sorry. My comment was not appropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry. Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform, and obviously, this is not how I wish to use it. I'm not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened.”
