Anurag Kashyap’s highly anticipated film Kennedy, starring Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat, has been creating waves since its screening at the Cannes Film Festival last year. The film received a 7-minute-long standing ovation at Cannes and was later praised at the Sydney Film Festival. Despite this international acclaim, the movie has yet to be released in India, leaving fans eagerly awaiting its arrival.
In an interview with News18, actor Abhilash Thapliyal, who plays a key role in Kennedy, shared his thoughts on the film’s pending release in India. “There is just one person who can answer this, it is Anurag (Kashyap) sir. I am sure Kennedy will be out soon for the world, for the audiences to see. It is an amazing film. We took it to Cannes last year. It was a very proud moment for all of us. Having Anurag Kashyap as a director in your IMDb list is a big thing for any actor. I am lucky to have him as a director. I don’t know when will Kennedy be out but I hope it comes out soon and people get to see the Anurag Kashyap magic one more time,” he said.
Thapliyal, known for his role in the hit TVF series Aspirants (2021), further elaborated on the praise Kennedy received at Cannes 2023. “I think every validation means a lot to me. As I always say, we actors work for either gaali or taali. Whenever you get a taali, it feels great. Primarily, when you go to Cannes, people there are filmmakers or critics, they understand the craft. When they watch and appreciate it, it always feels great. I go and read every review of my film or web show.”
Written and directed by Anurag Kashyap, Kennedy has been produced by Zee Studios and Ranjan Singh Kabir & Ahuja of Good Bad Films. The film follows a sleep-deprived police officer on a quest for redemption amidst diverse situations. Last year, Kennedy was also screened in India at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
