Chandrika Tandon Wins First Grammy

Chandrika Tandon created the Triveni album in collaboration with South African flautist Wouter Kellerman and Japanese cellist Eru Matsumoto, merging distinct musical styles. Their collaboration led to the Grammy win, which was announced at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 2. After accepting the award, Tandon wrote on her X handle, "Music is love, music ignites the light within all of us, and, even in our darkest days, music spreads joy and laughter."

Who Is Chandrika Tandon?

Chandrika Tandon is an Indian-American businesswoman, musician, and the elder sister of former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi. Born in Chennai, she studied at Madras Christian College and earned her master's degree from IIM Ahmedabad. Growing up in a traditional Chennai family, Tandon and her sister Indra were exposed to Vedic chants and Carnatic music, so music has been rooted in Tandon’s life since childhood. Tandon became the first Indian-American woman to be elected partner at McKinsey and later founded her own firm, Tandon Capital Associates.

As a composer and vocalist, Tandon received her musical training from classical singer Shubhra Guha and vocalist Girish Wazalwar. She released her debut album, Om Namo Narayana: Soul Call, in 2009, which earned a Grammy nomination in 2010. This year marked her second Grammy nomination, where she competed with producer Ricky Kej, sitar player Anoushka Shankar, and Indian-origin British artist Radhika Vekaria.
