BTS SUGA has recently been involved in a drunk driving incident on August 6, 2024, causing fans to worry about the possible consequences. Many speculated whether this incident would lead to an extension of his military service as a punishment. However, the Military Manpower Association has clarified that this is not the case.

In a statement released on August 7, a Military Manpower Association official explained that SUGA will not face any additional punishment, such as an extension of his social service period. The official emphasized that social service agents are only held accountable for such acts if they occur during working hours. Since SUGA's incident happened off-hours, there will be “no special punishment” for the BTS rapper.

The incident occurred when SUGA was driving an electric scooter home after dinner. Unfortunately, he was under the influence of alcohol and fell in front of his house. A police officer at the scene noticed the smell of alcohol on SUGA's breath and conducted a breathalyzer test, which confirmed he was drunk. Consequently, SUGA received a fine and his driver's license was revoked.

SUGA promptly responded to the incident by issuing an apology on Weverse on August 7. He expressed his deep regret and sadness for disappointing his fans and admirers. In his apology, SUGA acknowledged that even though there were no victims or damage to public property, he took full responsibility for his actions. He sincerely apologized to everyone hurt by his “careless and wrong actions” and promised to be more cautious in the future to prevent such incidents from happening again.

While SUGA's drunk driving incident has undoubtedly disappointed many, it will not result in an extension of his military service.
