New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: The year 2019 was dominated by films that broke stereotypes and brought something new for the audience to cheer for. The year belonged to action thrillers, patriotic and comedy films. The year began with no surprise as Salman's Bharat topped the box office, it was followed by patriotic film Uri that helped Vicky Kaushal win National Actor for his acting and then it was a race between Hrithik's War, Kabir Singh and Mission Mangal to top the chart. The top ten chart also includes Sushant and Shraddha's Chhichhore, Akshay's Housefull and Ranveer's Gully Boy. Here is the top 10 list:

War

The Siddharth Anand’s action-thriller tells the story of an Indian soldier Kabir (played by Hrithik Roshan), who is on a mission to kill his enemy Illiyasi and his aids. He meets Saurabh, who is disguised as his student Khalid (played by Tiger Shroff) who tries to kill Kabir but the latter survives. Vaani Kapoor can be seen playing Hrithik’s love interest in the movie. The film made an overall business of Rs 475 crores.

Kabir Singh

Sandeep Vanga directorial Kabir Singh is about the life of a surgeon who spirals into self-destruction after his girlfriend drops her. Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani play lead roles in the romantic drama. Though the film received mixed reviews, it became Kapoor’s highest-engrossing film. Produced by Bhushan Kumar and co. the film made an overall business of roughly Rs 380 crores.

Uri: The Surgical Strike

The Vicky Kaushal-starrer Uri is a military action film that is dramatised on the retaliation of the 2016 Uri attack. It follows major Vihaan Singh Shergill of the Indian army, who plays a leading role in the events. Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal, Kriti Kulhari can be seen playing pivotal roles in the movie. The film engrossed over RS 342 crore at the box office to emerge as the third highest engrosser of 2019.

Bharat

The Ali Abbas Zafar directorial featuring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif in lead roles tells about the life of a common man who follows his life from eight to 70 years. Tabu, Sunil Grover, Disha Patani and Jackie Shroff also play key roles in the film that raked Rs 325 crore at the box office.

Mission Mangal

Mission Mangal is a sci-fi movie that is based on the life of scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) who contributed to Mars Orbiter Mission—India’s first exemplary expedition. The Jagan Shakti multi-starrer includes Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Sharman Joshi, Sonakshi Sinha, among others. The film managed to collect Rs 290 crore at the box office.

Housefull 4

The Farhad Samji multi-starrer tells the story of three men who are considered useless, teams up with their girlfriends to steal money from a mafia don. Produced by Sajid Nadidadwala, the film stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda in lead roles. The fourth installment of the Housefull 4 franchise didn't receive good reviews, but still managed to rake Rs 278 crore at the box office.

Gully Boy

The Zoya Akhtar's directorial is inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy. Featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles, the film revolves around the life of an aspiring street rapper from Dharavi slums in Mumbai. Produced by Farhan Akhtar and co. the film raked Rs 238 crore at the box office and received India's official entry to the Oscars 2020.

Total Dhamaal

Indra Kumar directorial is another multi-starrer featuring Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Riteish Deshmukh,. RAshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey and Esha Gupta. The third part of the Dhamaal franchise is based loosely on the 1963 Hollywood film 'It's Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Though the film received mixed reviews from critics, the film grossed Rs 228 crore at the box office.

Chhichhore

The Sushant Singh and Sharddha Kapoor-starrer is about the lives of seven campus friends and the changes they undergo after completing their studies. It also shows their reunion when one of the friends meets with an accident. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and produced by Nitesh Tiwari. The college drama raked over Rs 212 crore at the box office.

Super 30

Super 30 is a biographical drama directed by Vikas Bahl and features Hrithik Roshan in a never seen before avatar. It is based on the real-life story of mathematician Anand Kumar and his journey. Co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film managed to rake over Rs 209 crore at the box office. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles.
