Ziddi Girls On OTT: Shonali Bose directorial web series is set in a fictional college named Matilda House, which is basically referred as MH in the show. The series was shot in Delhi University’s Miranda House (which is also known as MH). After the trailer was dropped, the authorities, students were quite disappointed for the show’s portrayal about the college and the students. The trailer of the show also says, “Aaj MH mein padhai nahi, porn chalta hai.” This created huge criticism among the viewers from the real college. Several netizens on social media slammed the trailer. A user said, “such a wrong portrayal of miranda.” Another user said, “Why dont these creators actually meet a college student before making a series out of them??” A comment read, “Totally misinterpreted and defaming the campus of MH.”

Notably, the director of the show Shonali Bose is also an alumni of Miranda House. Even, Principal of Miranda House Bijayalaxmi Nanda told Hindustan Times, “I feel betrayed... I have always admired Shonali's strong filmography. [So] when she came up to us with her project, I was under the impression, that it would be another inspiring project. After all, she is our own student, why would she ever want to portray Miranda in bad light? She is a reputed alumna, thus this breaks my heart even more.”

She continued, “I have been a part of this college for 30 years and what is shown in the trailer in no way relates to our students. We have written to the filmmaker and demanded that they take down the objectionable trailer and the short form reference to MH on an urgent basis.”

“But, I would like to assure Mirandians, that we are standing with them and will do everything in our capacity to ensure that in no way is the prestige of our college diminished,” she added.

The college authorities of Miranda House had also sent a legal notice to the makers of Ziddi Girls, as per Times Of India report. The makers of the show shared a new trailer with the disclaimer which read, “This series is a work of fiction. It’s based on a fictional institution and characters. It’s not intended to defame any person, organisation or educational institution. Viewer’s discretion is advised.”

Miranda House Asks The Makers Of Ziddi Girls To Take Down The First Trailer

The portal shared the statement of the college which read, “Miranda House as an institution and its extended alumni have been shocked and outraged by the misrepresentation of the institution in the series Ziddi Girls. It is far more anguishing since the series is directed by celebrated alumna Shonali Bose and parts of which were shot in the college building. The college has written to the director and producer for three main things – to take down the objectionable trailer, to desist from using the acronym MH for the fictional institution and to have a preview of the series on an urgent basis for the college, before it is released.

They added, “The producers have released a new trailer which seems to be balanced. However, the earlier objectionable trailer continues to circulate. Secondly, they have not responded to the other two points raised by the college. The college, therefore, had no other option but to file a police complaint and send a legal notice on similar lines.”
