Surajkund Mela Tragedy: A cop died, and several others were injured after a swing collapsed at the world-famous Surajkund Mela in Faridabad, Haryana, on Saturday. An inspector lost his life while trying to rescue people who were trapped in the collapsed swing. At least 13 people were seriously injured in the incident. Earlier in the day, the fair's second entrance gate had collapsed, injuring a child and a middle-aged person.

CM Saini Orders Officials To Provide All Assistance To Victims 

Reacting to the incident, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini said he has directed the concerned authorities to provide appropriate and immediate treatment of the injured ones.

Saini, in an X post, said, "I am deeply saddened by the accident that occurred during the Surajkund Mela in Faridabad. I express my heartfelt condolences to the family of the person who lost his life in this incident. At the same time, necessary directions have been issued to the concerned authorities for the appropriate and immediate treatment of the injured individuals. The Haryana government is fully committed, with utmost promptness and sensitivity, to providing all possible assistance to the injured and their families."

The inspector was critically injured in the accident and was immediately taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Four of the injured were taken to BK Hospital by ambulance, including a police officer named Rajesh.

Strict Action Will Be Taken Against Responsible: Faridabad DC

Faridabad DC Ayush Sinha also reached the fairgrounds upon receiving the information. He said strict action would be taken against those responsible after an investigation.

"Around 13 people were injured when a ride collapsed at the Surajkund Mela at 6:30 PM. Inspector Jagdish Prasad lost his life while trying to save people. The injured are being treated. Strict action will be taken against the fairground operator responsible for the ride after an investigation," said Ayush Sinha, DC, Faridabad.

Following the chaos caused by this major accident, the main cultural program scheduled for the evening at the Surajkund Mela had to be cancelled. Singer Naveen Poonia and stand-up comedian Amit Tandon were scheduled to perform on the main stage of the fairground. Many people who had come to enjoy the fair on the weekend also started leaving for their homes, following the tragedy.

The 39th edition of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela (Fair) 2026, which began on 31 January and is scheduled to conclude on February 15, is being organised at the Surajkund ground in Faridabad.
