In a significant move to combat air pollution, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has set a target to make 300 roads dust-free by 2026. Additionally, the regular cleaning of 3,500 kilometers of road network will be ensured. These decisions were part of the Annual Action Plan for 2025-26, discussed during a high-level meeting on Thursday chaired by MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya.
Key Focus Areas
The plan, aligned with guidelines from the Central Government, CPCB, and CAQM, focuses on transport, road dust control, waste management, and green cover.
Road Dust Control: Acknowledging road dust as a major pollutant, the plan includes road redevelopment and the extensive use of mechanised sweeping machines, water sprinklers, and anti-smog guns.
Transport Upgrade: To reduce vehicular emissions, the corporation aims to strengthen public transport by increasing the fleet of e-buses and CNG buses. New EV charging and battery swapping stations will also be established.
Waste Management: Strict guidelines have been issued for construction sites. Debris will be processed daily at the Basai C&D plant, with new plants proposed to curb illegal dumping.
Legacy Waste: A phased plan targets the complete clearance of 1.6 million metric tonnes of legacy waste at the Bandhwari dump site by March 2028.
Directives And Coordination
Commissioner Dahiya directed relevant departments to increase Air Quality Monitoring Systems and ensure better coordination between agencies. The meeting was attended by officials from GMDA, HSVP, Police, HSPCB, PWD and GMCBL.
