Gurugram Cyber Police have successfully reduced cyber fraud this year. The amount of money lost to cyber fraud has decreased not by one or two crore rupees, but by a full 100 crore rupees. This was achieved through large-scale awareness campaigns and swift action against fraudsters. Action was taken not only in India but also in several countries from where cyber fraud syndicates were operating.
In 2021, Gurugram Police received fraud complaints amounting to Rs 6.82 crore. This figure continued to rise year after year. By the end of 2024, the amount lost to cyber fraud had reached Rs 394 crore.

In view of the continuous increase in cyber fraud figures, Gurugram Police, in collaboration with Dainik Jagran and other organisations, began systematic efforts to curb it. In this campaign, which used public awareness as a tool, cyber fraud figures saw a reduction of Rs 100 crore in 2025. While losses from fraud amounted to Rs 346 crore by November 2024, this figure decreased to Rs 246 crore by November 2025.
While last year the cyber police cracked down on bank employees, this year they targeted cyber syndicates operating from abroad. It was observed that cyber syndicates based in foreign countries were committing large-scale fraud. These syndicates were operating from Myanmar, Dubai, Hong Kong, and other countries.
Following the fraud, the cyber police tracked the transactions and reached the syndicates operating abroad. This year, more than ten such fraudsters working for cyber syndicates abroad were apprehended. As a result of this action, a large number of people working for these syndicates were deported from Myanmar last month.
Interrogation of these individuals revealed that they were luring Indian youth into cyber fraud with the promise of jobs. Continuous action by the Government of India and the governments of other countries against cyber fraudsters has led to a decrease in scams originating from abroad. While the cyber police had arrested 1,658 accused persons by November last year, this number increased to 2,434 by November this year.
While the amount of money lost in scams has significantly decreased, the number of complaints has risen, with more complainants coming forward due to increased awareness. This is attributed to greater public awareness, which has encouraged more victims to report incidents.
By November last year, 36,702 complaints had been received, whereas this number rose to 38,121 by November this year. During the same period last year, 1,218 cases were registered, compared to 1,540 FIRs filed this year.

ACP Cyber Crime Priyanshu Dewan stated that cyber fraud cases remain a matter of concern. Efforts are being made at every level to reduce them further. When employees working in several banks across the country, including in Gurugram, were found to be involved in fraud, the cyber police issued guidelines to them. Bank employees are now being monitored.
Intending to prevent and tackle cybercrimes, Gurugram Police are raising public awareness through outreach programmes, foot patrols, and special events. They provide information on the types of cybercrimes, their prevention, and how to stay safe.
To raise awareness, more than 1,000 such special programmes were conducted in 2025. These programmes were held in schools, colleges, companies, social venues, institutions, and shopping malls. In light of rising cybercrimes, awareness programmes were organised alongside strategic plans.
