There is relief in store for ESI cardholders seeking treatment at the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Sector-9, Gurugram, as the hospital has received official approval to operate its own blood bank. The required machinery and modern equipment have already been installed, and doctors and staff have undergone specialised training. The blood bank is expected to become operational from the second week of February.
The ESIC hospital caters to a large population of industrial workers and gig workers in Cyber City, numbering over two lakh. On average, more than 1,000 ESI cardholders visit the hospital’s OPD daily, while over 50 patients are admitted to the emergency ward each day.

Until now, patients requiring blood for childbirth, accidents or other medical emergencies had to depend on private hospitals or other government facilities, often facing delays due to non-availability of blood. The absence of a blood bank had long been a major challenge for the hospital, and its introduction is expected to significantly improve emergency care.
Medical Superintendent Nilesh Nigam said the blood bank will be equipped with all necessary testing facilities to ensure a safe and reliable blood supply. He added that the hospital administration plans to further expand medical services in the future to enhance convenience for ESI cardholders.
Meanwhile, preparations are also underway to start a dialysis facility at the hospital. Necessary resources are being arranged, and once operational, the dialysis unit is expected to provide major relief to kidney patients, who currently have to seek costly treatment at private centres.
