A man from Gurugram has been penalised for repeated traffic violations, accumulating fines totalling Rs 2.06 lakh, double the price of his scooter, within a year. The scooter was impounded by the traffic police on Sunday after the rider was caught once again driving on the wrong side of the road.

The Gurugram Traffic Police have launched a special drive to stop and detain vehicles with fines pending for over 90 days. Offenders are required to pay the dues immediately, failing which their vehicles are seized.

During one such inspection near the Police Commissioner’s office, a team led by Traffic Inspector Mahabir stopped the scooter. On checking records, officers found 28 pending challans, amounting to Rs 2.06 lakh. Shockingly, in just January and February 2025, the scooter had been fined 12 times, racking up penalties of Rs 1.32 lakh.

Out of the 28 violations in the past year, 24 were captured by cameras and four were issued manually. With the fines remaining unpaid for over three months, the police impounded the vehicle and sent it to the Rajiv Chowk parking.

At the time of seizure, the scooter was being ridden by Kapil, while the vehicle was registered to Muneshwar Dubey of Baldev Nagar. Records show the scooter was purchased in December 2022.

Inspector Mahabir confirmed the impoundment, reiterating that habitual offenders will face strict action.
