The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh has worsened, with rising water levels of the Yamuna and Ganga rivers inundating both villages and cities across multiple districts. Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected, many taking shelter with relatives and acquaintances, while relief and rescue operations are underway.

One death case, due to drowning, has been reported from Agra, Auraiya, and Amroha.

In Agra, the Yamuna has been in its most severe state since 1978. After submerging fields and villages, floodwater has entered 57 villages and 32 colonies across five tehsils. The river has now reached markets and residential areas. A wall of the Mahalakshmi temple in Balkeshwar collapsed on Monday evening, injuring three people. The NDRF, SDRF, and 400 officials have been deployed for relief efforts.

In Mathura, the Yamuna crossed the danger mark on Monday morning. Water has flooded Swami Ghat, Vishram Ghat, and the Sadar area lanes, disrupting movement. In Vrindavan, two dozen colonies are submerged, and boats are being used to ferry stranded residents.

Ganga on the Rise in Several Districts

  • In Prayagraj, the Ganga and Yamuna are both flowing near the danger mark, affecting around 80,000 people, 20 city localities, and more than 80 villages.
  • In Varanasi (Kashi), 90 villages and 28 localities are underwater in what is the fourth flood in three months. The rising Ganga has forced the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat to be performed on rooftops, while cremation at Manikarnika Ghat faces severe disruption.
  • In Unnao, the Ganga is flowing 12 cm above the danger mark, submerging roads.
  • In Farrukhabad, the river has risen 20 cm above the danger mark.
  • In Fatehpur, the Ganga has risen 8 cm, though the Yamuna levels have dipped slightly.
  • In Bijnor, strong currents have eroded half a kilometre of the Rawli Barrage embankment, prompting authorities to halt heavy vehicle traffic on the Meerut–Pauri highway.
  • In Amroha, three youths who went fishing were swept away by strong currents; one died.
  • In Sambhal, the Ganga is nearing the danger mark.
  • In Aligarh, two dozen villages have been affected.
