The Gurugram Tourism Department has announced plans to demolish illegal structures built on its land in Peer Colony and Pahad Colony, Sohna. In the first phase, approximately 250 families occupying around 9.5 acres will be targeted, with demolition action set to begin within the next 10 days.

DTP and Nodal Officer RS Bath warned illegal occupants to vacate the encroachments themselves; otherwise, they will not be allowed to remove their belongings once the demolition starts. Bath emphasised that priority action will be taken against individuals involved in drug abuse and other anti-social activities, which have tarnished the city’s image.

A meeting was held at the Sohna Barbet Tourist Complex with local officials and illegal occupants present, including a significant number of women. Councillor representative Tekchand and former councillors Qasim Khan and Anil Kumar pleaded on behalf of the families, requesting that the government set a price and transfer the land to them.

Bath, however, maintained a firm stance, stating, “Encroachment on government land will not be allowed to continue. The city of Sohna, the city of Shiva, will not be defamed. Strict action will be taken.” Other officials present included Sunil Sharma, Manager of the Barbet Tourist Complex, and former councillor Raman Jangra.

The illegal occupants have also lost their legal battle. The Tourism Department secured victories in court as well as in the SDM’s court. Orders to vacate the encroachments have also been issued by the SDM and the Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram.

Sunil Kumar, local Tourism Department official, said, “People are not vacating even after losing in court. The illegal structures will be removed under all circumstances. The meeting was held to hear their side, so no one can claim the administration ignored them. Bulldozers will begin demolition within 10 days.”
