The sudden suspension of the city bus service between Gurugram Bus Stand and Sohna Bus Stand has triggered widespread anger among residents and students in the region. The service, which was halted a week ago without prior notice, has left daily commuters—particularly students—struggling for reliable transport.

Rising Public Anger

Residents have launched a signature campaign demanding the immediate resumption of the service and have warned of staging a protest if their demands are not met. The cancellation has disproportionately affected female students living in rural areas and towns, who rely on these buses for safe and timely travel to colleges and coaching centers.

Official Explanation Vs. History

History: The service was initiated in 2020 by Sanjay Singh, the then MLA of Sohna and Minister of State for Sports. It connected Sohna to key locations including the Gurugram Bus Stand and Huda City Centre.

Current Status: According to officials, the service was stopped following new orders restricting the route.

GMDA Stance: Gopal, General Manager of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), clarified the administrative position:

"In 2020, the city bus service facility was extended from Maruti Kunj to Sohna Bus Stand. Now, the order is to run it only up to Maruti Kunj. The scope of the city bus service is only up to Maruti Kunj, and we will follow whatever orders come from above."

Impact On Students

Students have reported severe disruptions to their education. The alternative private buses wait until they are completely full before departing, causing significant delays.

Voices Of The Affected:

Anjali: "It is very difficult to travel to and from college. Not reaching college on time is disrupting our studies. If transport facilities are not provided, our education will be ruined."

Khushboo: "Since the city bus stopped, we have to wait for private buses which do not leave until they are full. This makes us late. The city bus service must be restored."

Siya: "We have to wait at the bus stand to come from the village to the town and then go to college. Previously, the city bus was a better facility with short intervals between buses."

Vasundhara: "We are struggling for transport. The problems have increased significantly over the last few days."

Anushka: "We are facing difficulty reaching coaching centers on time, which is disrupting our studies."

Political Intervention

Sanjay Singh, former Minister of State for Sports, has addressed the issue, promising to intervene.

He said,"City buses were run for the convenience of the people. I will speak to the officials about why the service was stopped. The city bus facility will not be allowed to be discontinued."
